How to pass the Wyoming knowledge test

  1. Read the handbook. Every question comes from the official Wyoming manuals; the handbook page links to the agency's own copies.
  2. Practice test by test. Each numbered test mixes Wyoming law with the national road rules, like the real exam.
  3. Read every explanation. Especially for answers you got right by guessing.
  4. Simulate the real exam on the category page when you pass the tests comfortably.

Wyoming written test format

Car. W.S. 31-7-114 requires applicants to be examined. WYDOT publishes that the automated test covers sign and marking identification plus multiple-choice questions on traffic laws, that the same written test may be taken only twice in one day, that an applicant who fails must wait 24 hours before testing again, and that an applicant who misses 13 or more questions must wait three days to retest. WYDOT does not publish the item count or the pass mark for the non-commercial test, so the 25 questions and 20 correct answers shown here follow the 80 percent standard WYDOT applies to commercial written tests and are listed as unconfirmed.

Motorcycle. The Wyoming motorcycle manual describes the same automated written test as the Class C manual, with the same two-attempts-per-day rule, the same 24-hour wait after a failure and the same three-day wait after missing 13 or more questions. WYDOT does not publish an item count or pass mark for the Class M written test, so the figures shown here mirror the non-commercial test and are listed as unconfirmed. The on-cycle skills test is waived for holders of an approved Motorcycle Safety Course card no more than two years old.

CDL. WYDOT states that all CDL written tests are multiple choice and that the passing score for a written test is 80 percent, that a commercial learner permit is valid for 365 days and must be held at least 14 days before skills testing, and that a person under 18 cannot be issued a Wyoming CDL. WYDOT does not publish the number of items in the general knowledge test, so the 50 questions shown here follow the common federal standard and are listed as unconfirmed; the 80 percent pass mark is confirmed and is what determines the 40 correct answers.
